Description
We have had Ernie from a puppy and bought him from a Kennel Club registered breeder. We need to re-home Ernie because we have come to realise that he isn’t the happiest he can be with us. Explanation is provided below.
Ernie has lived with myself and my wife as well as our two children. He has grown up from a puppy with us since the children were 7 and 9. His favourite activities are going on walks with the dog walker and other dogs so he can play chase. He also enjoys snoozing on warm blankets and ragging around his teddy toys. He also likes belly rubs when he is calm and relaxed.
Due to his breed he is quite protective of his home. He will bark at anyone at the door.. This will persist until he recognises the person and will then settle down. If it is a visitor we invite into the main area of the house then he will bark for attention and settle when he gets it, even so far as to sit on the sofa for pets with visitors. It is important to note that this behaviour isn’t aggressive, just vocal, and he does not have any history of biting anyone or being rough with children.
He is also upset when we leave him alone. This is why we believe he would be happier in a home with less comings/goings and where he can spend time and sleep within the vicinity of his owners.
Some more positive personality traits include being good with other dogs; he is walked regularly by a dog walker and enjoys running around with 3-4 other dogs at at time. His recall is generally good (with rewards) but can be persistent with something he had found to roll in. Lead walking is fine and he will sniff along the route and say hi to passing dogs. At home he likes small games of fetch with his toys in the house as well as chewing on his sticks in the evening. He will also lay with you while you sit or watch TV.
He is not scared of anything in particular, other than the aforementioned weariness of new visitors. He isn’t the biggest fan of fireworks but doesn’t cower at them if you are there. He has a strong desire to chase small animals such as cats, birds and squirrels, so he is not recommended to live with cats or small furries.
He is currently on two 50g meals a day if ‘imby’ insect protein dry kibble. We use ‘Scrumbles’ plant-based treats but he also likes carrot, blueberries and peanut butter.
Ernie doesn’t have any medical conditions that we know of and he is up to date with vaccinations as well as flea and worming treatment.
